WCASD Uses Family ID for Sports Registration

4

Family ID provides students with a secure platform to register for sports through our district website, and parents/guardians can complete registration at their leisure.

Registration for modified winter athletics session one begins October 26, and JV and Varsity registration opens up on November 5. Registration takes place using Family ID.

Participation

Family ID, an online system designed to make registration of sports easier, has been adopted by the school district as its registration tool for sports registration. This streamlines registration while helping make administration more efficient and environmentally sustainable by eliminating paper forms. You will still need your child’s physical exam completed and uploaded before registering them in athletic programs – therefore, keeping the date of their last physical examination handy may help ensure accurate completion of registration online.

If this is your first time using Family ID, the process involves creating an account by entering your first and last names, Email addresses, and passwords. After creating your account, click on the link provided in your activation E-mail to log in – once there, agree to FamilyID Terms of Service before clicking Continue.

The system will then prompt you to select the sport in which your student is enrolling, with RCSD offering numerous offerings at both middle school and high school levels. After selecting, reviewing, and completing information related to PIAA requirements such as Athletic Health History Form, Athletic Handbook Consent Form, Emergency Medical Authorization Transportation Agreement (EMAT), Specific Medical Needs List, etc. – these details will then be stored safely on the FamilyID website; should your child require lifesaving medication such as an epi-pen, inhaler, etc. a Self Carry Order will need to be issued prior to registration.

Tryouts

Before engaging in interscholastic sports, students must register through the FamilyID online registration system and electronically submit all paperwork needed for participation. This registration system is HIPAA compliant and helps the Upper Darby School District become more environmentally sustainable while simultaneously increasing administrative efficiencies and being HIPAA-compliant.

Parents must create an account with FamilyID before their children can register for sports through it. To do this, they should visit the organization’s website and select the registration form under “Programs,” scrolling down until they reach either “Sign Up” if this is their first time using FamilyID or Log In if they already have one. After creating an account with FamilyID, they should check their email for an activation link; clicking this will activate their account.

Once athletes have submitted their registration, they must upload a copy of their physical examination dated within the current school year and signed by a physician to FamilyID. This can be uploaded through the website, emailed directly to the athletic director, or handed in at the front desk of the school.

Failure to submit registration, physical paperwork, the Pay to Participate Fee, and Impact Concussion Test forms by Friday, November 10, will prevent students from starting tryouts for the winter sports season until all necessary documents have been returned. All forms can be downloaded from the FamilyID website or sent directly to either the Athletic Department at the high school or the Nurse’s Office at the middle school, as required.

Physicals

All student-athletes participating in RCSD sports programs (Modified, JV or Varsity (V) Girls’ Basketball; Modified or V Boys’ Basketball; JV or V Wrestling; Varsity Swim or Competitive Cheer) must register and clear to participate with Family ID. Both parents and students can access this portal by following the links provided on individual school program pages.

Our online process is both efficient and user-friendly, keeping all forms and information available so that registration for multiple seasons or programs does not need to be repeated each year. Furthermore, having all paperwork stored together makes it easier for the nurse’s office to review student-athletes for participation.

Your child must undergo a physical exam conducted by their physician in order to participate in athletics. This examination must be documented using the State of Pennsylvania Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form Section 7 and no earlier than June 1 of every year. Your physician must then sign off on and complete and sign the medical examiner portion of this form.

Once your student has an approved physical on file, it will remain valid for 365 days. If the physical expires during a season, practice or playing will cease until new clearance has been given from a medical provider. Parents can upload the most up-to-date copy into FamilyID or bring a hard copy directly to the nurse’s office for review; all personal information submitted through FamilyID has been thoroughly vetted by the Upper Darby School District legal department to ensure it adheres to state and federal privacy laws.

Insurance

All student-athletes participating in RCSD sports programs must carry insurance that fulfills the minimum requirements set forth by the Rhode Island High School Athletic Association. This coverage may be purchased through FamilyID during registration; its annual cost is $20.

To access the registration site, click on the green Register Now button on the left side of this page. Create your secure FamilyID account by inputting your First and Last names (parent/guardian), E-mail address, and password before selecting I Agree with FamilyID Terms of Service. An email will then be sent containing a link for activating your account.

Once logged in, please complete all the information requested of you by FamilyID. Note that fields marked red* must have an answer, and once complete, click the green “Submit” button; FamilyID will send an email confirming completion.

Payment

If your child wishes to participate in sports this year, registration on FamilyID must occur first. This secure yet user-friendly platform helps WCASD become more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible by streamlining registration. Multiple students can be registered in one account while all PIAA-required forms (student physicals, parental permission forms, student accident insurance policies, and the NFHS concussion course forms) are embedded into FamilyID; we no longer accept hard copies.

To start the registration process, follow the link provided by your organization above and select the registration form from Programs. Next, either Sign Up (if this is your first time using FamilyID) or Log In and wait for an activation email that requires clicking before activating your new account. After doing so, scroll down until you see green “Register Now” or “Log In” buttons that should be clicked.

As soon as you arrive at the registration form, be sure to fill in all required information, such as student name, grade level, and gender, as well as medical and emergency contact details. When finished, save all changes made; additionally, you can upload an updated physical exam directly into FamilyID instead of handing it off now.

Physical exams must provide sports clearance, pass vision testing, and be within the last year; you can find this date on FamilyID or at the nurse’s office. In order for your child to participate in sports activities, the physical must also be uploaded onto FamilyID or submitted directly to them for eligibility.
