The Portland Sports Complex is an impressive facility that offers much to the local community. It is host to various youth sports leagues such as soccer and flag football and also features indoor facilities like running tracks and flexible court spaces.
Indoor Sports Leagues
Portland offers an abundance of indoor sports leagues for people of all abilities to engage with – whether that means unleashing their inner athlete or simply getting active and off the couch! Many companies are social and provide beginner-friendly sports such as kickball, dodgeball, and cornhole – while other offerings focus more on specific sports like basketball or soccer – plus LGBTQ+-specific leagues!
Portland is also home to professional sports franchises like the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association and Portland Timbers and Thorns FC of Major League Soccer, in addition to sporting venues that host amateur events or tournaments like Hadlock Field, where high school baseball teams play and Portland Expo Center which hosts a minor league hockey team.
Portland is also home to numerous outdoor sporting facilities, such as Portland International Raceway, which hosts NASCAR races and an annual Motocross event during Rose Festival. Portland is also an increasingly popular mountain biking destination, with numerous trails for mountain bikers to take. There are also rock climbing routes offering breathtaking views of both Portland and Columbia River Gorge.
Recently, Portland has seen an upsurge in outdoor sports participation. In particular, the Portland Metropolitan YMCA has sponsored various new youth sports programs. At the same time, Portland Parks and Recreation has collaborated with nonprofit organizations to develop recreational facilities throughout its communities. These new sports hubs aim to reduce disparities between high school athletic facilities and neighborhood level ones.
Albina Sports Program, which provides low-cost youth track and basketball programs to students of color across Chicago, hopes to secure a long-term lease below market value at the former Whitaker Middle School property located in Concordia and Cully neighborhoods near Fernhill Park. Next week, the district board will vote on a resolution authorizing them to begin negotiations for this facility.
Turf’s Sports Pub
Portland is renowned for its Trail Blazers and vibrant football culture, but that doesn’t define this sports city! Additionally, other professional and recreational teams reside here, as well as various bars and restaurants catering to sports fans of all kinds – whether supporting Timbers or Thorns, there is no shortage of places to watch the game with a beer in hand!
The Sports Complex, located at Fernhill Park in northeast Portland, features a 300-meter indoor running track and flexible court spaces. Using innovative mass timber framing techniques, its exposed wood structure gives this complex its local identity, while multiple skylights will bring natural lighting throughout its entirety during daylight hours, further decreasing electric lighting needs.
Outside, the facility will feature a football field, multiple softball/baseball fields, batting cages, and a multi-purpose turf field, as well as covered spectator seating areas and playground equipment for spectators to use during football games in the fall 2017. It should open its doors by September 2017, just in time for the fall 2017 football season!
Turf’s Sports Pub in Portland offers the ideal spot to watch your game and satisfy your hunger, with an expansive selection of local beers and wines as well as bar food favorites such as their famous fried pickles or turkey and bacon flatbread, sure to keep you satisfied for another game day!

Municipal Park will soon host the city’s new multiple-use sports complex featuring a football field, multiple softball/baseball fields with batting cages, multipurpose turf fields, splash pads with playgrounds, covered spectator areas and concession stands, lighting scoreboards and dual lane batting cages – all ready for fall 2017 youth football season. The project should be complete prior to kick-off.
Recreational youth associations typically have limited funds available to them for running their organizations’ operations, making meeting their mission-critical in finding qualified volunteers to coach or board positions as well as making sure players receive top instruction. To assist, the city generates revenue through concession sales at its sports facilities.
Providence Park boasts an impressive selection of craft beer on tap from local producers. Popular establishments include Double Post Bar near section 109 and 36-tap Axe and Rose, both located near section 109; food from vendors such as Podnah’s Pit and Tamale Boy are also found within its borders; children aged two and under can enter Timbers or Thorns games free if seated on an adult lap; additionally, Providence Park enforces a clear bag policy to discourage clutches that feature zippered compartments or extra straps from entering.
Parking
If you’re attending an athletic event at Portland Sports Complex, parking options may vary. Mobile payment apps provide convenient ways of reserving spaces in SmartPark garages downtown and on public streets or using public street meters. At significant events, the streets and sidewalks surrounding JELD-WEN Field can become congested, so it is wise to plan before heading out. PSU students can use public transit, which is free for them. To avoid crowds and park easily early.
Portland Sports Complex is situated on the Lewis & Clark campus in Portland, Oregon, and can be easily reached via Interstate-5 North and Terwilliger Boulevard exit (#297). Follow Terwilliger Boulevard until it meets the campus entrance roundabout; turn right and enter campus through this roundabout entrance point. Parking for season ticket members and their guests is complimentary, while visitors must register with the fourth-floor entrance station and retrieve parking tickets to display on the dashboard.
Parking rates depend on the time of day and the event being attended. The Portland Metropolitan Area Parking Authority manages over 4,000 spaces across its network of SmartPark garages downtown; their app displays real-time availability; more than 375 businesses offer validation vouchers when qualifying purchases are made. The Portland Sports Complex also features private lots with various rates and hours available to park there.
At Timbers and Thorns home games, special event pricing applies in the Northwest District bounded by NW Vaughn Street on the north, W. Burnside Street on the south, Cornell and Westover Roads on the west, and NW Vaughn Street on the west. Starting three hours prior to game start time until three hours post-match start time (four dollars an hour); all other meters are free on calendar City Holidays such as New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, or Memorial Day.
