Chinese milled mak90s have gained widespread appreciation among AK enthusiasts due to their affordability and functionality. Boasting smooth triggers and entire front hood bayonet blocks, these firearms make an excellent choice despite less rustproof finishes.

But they were sold with slant-cut stocks that are incompatible with standard AKM thumbhole stocks, making this video about upgrading your rifle with a new store more accessible than ever.

Catalpa Bungei Stock

Catalpa Bungei Stock is an ornamental deciduous tree widely popularly planted as decorative in China. Known for its showy flowers and dense wood, this variety resists diseases like powdery mildew, and Catalpa bignonioides bark beetle as well as being highly versatile – ideal for extensive gardens with ample space as its rapid growth pattern is easy to train; plus, its resistance to droughts and frost makes it suitable for urban settings as well.

Formerly, this species was known as C. bungei or Manchurian Catalpa; when grown for cultivation purposes in Europe it was called C. kaempferi (Henry 1912). It is possible that the specimen collected in WD009 could have been an authentic C. bungei tree; however, this seems unlikely given that it was pollarded late summer and did not flower or produce long beans (Zhang & Santisuk 1998). Catalpa bungei specimens in cultivation may be hard to come by; nevertheless, they are frequently sold under its name. Richard Olsen has identified only nine C. bungei trees within the United States, one of which was planted at an American nursery (at the US National Arboretum). C. ovata or, more frequently, its dwarf clone C. bignonioides ‘Nana’ comprise the remaining plants. Neither species blooms regularly; instead, these top-worked stocks often resemble an inelegant mass attached to poles.

Catalpa bungei has become very popular across Asia due to both its beauty and utility; moreover, its genetic material has also been utilized in creating hybrid varieties for cultivation purposes. Unfortunately, these hybrids do not possess the same ornamental value as valid species due to being less robust or fast-growing and not producing as many flowers compared with suitable species; nevertheless, they make attractive additions to any garden or landscape and are especially effective when planted geometrically in an avenue or row arrangement.
